Partnerships & Growth Fellowship – South Africa

Johannesburg
Full-time
Trainee

Your mission

We are F/A/Q Health – a social business operating at the intersection of health, culture, technology and community. Our mission is to empower young people to make informed decisions about their health while building the infrastructure that helps turn awareness into meaningful action.
Through our flagship brand FAQ YOU, we are developing a next-generation health companion designed around how young people actually discover, understand and access health.
South Africa is an important market for F/A/Q Health and a place where we want to deepen our partnerships, strengthen our local ecosystem and further develop our community. We are therefore looking for someone who can help us build our Partnerships & Growth activities on the ground.
As a Partnerships & Growth Fellow, you will work closely with our local team and senior leadership to identify opportunities, open doors and help turn conversations into concrete partnerships.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building things: relationships, pipelines, partnerships and new opportunities.
You will engage with companies, foundations, health organisations, government stakeholders, funders and other relevant partners and help us understand where F/A/Q Health can create meaningful value.
As our platform grows internationally, insights and partnerships developed in South Africa may also help inform our approach to other low- and middle-income markets.

What success looks like
Over the six-month fellowship, we would like you to help us:
Build a strong pipeline of relevant partnership and growth opportunities
Develop relationships with decision-makers across the private, public and social sectors
Identify opportunities for commercial partnerships, sponsorships, funding and strategic collaborations
Turn promising conversations into concrete next steps, proposals or partnerships
Strengthen the systems we use to manage relationships, opportunities and follow-ups
Deepen our understanding of the South African health, youth and partnership ecosystem
Success is not measured only by signed deals. We are looking for someone who creates momentum, opens relevant doors and helps us build a stronger foundation for long-term growth.

What you can expect
You will work closely with F/A/Q Health's leadership and our South African team and gain direct exposure to the development of partnerships and growth opportunities.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a growing international health platform and help shape how we develop our presence and partnerships in Southern Africa.
For the right person, the fellowship may also create opportunities to continue working with F/A/Q Health beyond the initial six-month period.

Core Accountability

You will work across opportunity development, partnerships and ecosystem building. This may include:
  • Identifying and approaching potential partners across healthcare, consumer brands, technology, media, foundations, government and civil society
  • Building relationships with relevant decision-makers and stakeholders
  • Researching organisations, markets and funding opportunities and translating insights into concrete opportunities
  • Preparing partnership concepts, proposals, presentations and meeting materials
  • Supporting and increasingly owning partner conversations and follow-ups
  • Developing and maintaining our partnership pipeline, CRM and opportunity tracking
  • Identifying sponsorships, grants, campaigns and strategic collaboration opportunities
  • Representing F/A/Q Health at selected meetings, conferences and ecosystem events
  • Helping us understand where our platform and capabilities can create value for partners in South Africa
  • Working closely with our international Partnerships & Growth team to develop opportunities that may extend beyond South Africa

What You Bring

We are looking for someone who combines curiosity with execution.
You might come from business development, partnerships, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, consulting, entrepreneurship, healthcare or another environment where you have had to bring people and opportunities together.

You should:
  • Be based in or near Johannesburg
  • Be available for a six-month part-time fellowship
  • Be comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your work
  • Communicate confidently with different kinds of stakeholders, from community organisations to senior corporate decision-makers
  • Be able to turn research and conversations into concrete next steps
  • Be organised and disciplined when it comes to pipelines, follow-ups and relationship management
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be commercially curious while caring about meaningful health and social impact
  • Be comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment where not everything is predefined
  • Experience in healthcare is helpful, but not required.
  • A strong network is helpful, but more important is your ability to build one.
We are particularly interested in people who have created momentum before.
For example, you may have:
  • Secured a partnership, sponsorship or grant
  • Built relationships with companies, funders or government stakeholders
  • Helped grow a startup, organisation or initiative
  • Developed a new programme or commercial opportunity
  • Built a stakeholder network from scratch
  • Organised a campaign, project or community initiative
  • Turned an initial conversation into a concrete collaboration
  • Formal titles matter less to us than evidence that you can identify opportunities, build trust and make things happen.
